Starling Acquisition FAQ

Common queries following Ember's acquisition by Starling Bank.

Following our recent acquisition announcement, there were a lot of common questions so we’ve pulled together this FAQ to make things as clear as possible. We hope you find it useful!


Do I need to move my business banking fully to Starling?

No - you don’t need to switch everything to Starling. To keep using Ember software beyond 31st December 2025, you’ll just need to open and connect at least one Starling business account.

  • You can continue to use Ember with multiple bank accounts, just as you do today. Starling simply needs to be one of them.

  • Ember is working closely with Starling to manage our customers through the Starling onboarding process as efficiently as possible. Please reach out to us if you're interested in opening a Starling account, and we’ll come back to you on next steps.


What happens to accounting services after 26th September 2025?

Ongoing accounting services provided directly by Ember will stop after 26th September 2025.

  • Any work already paid for will be completed as normal.

  • If you need urgent work done before 26th September 2025 (such as a Self Assessment for mortgage purposes), please reach out to us via Intercom and we’ll discuss this with you.

  • For any other accounting needs, we recommend contacting Anderson Woolven LTD who can provide one-off services or complete your obligations once you have transitioned to them as your ongoing accountants.


Who are Anderson Woolven Ltd?

Anderson Woolven Ltd is a new, independent accountancy company set up by Steven Anderson FCCA and Sarah Woolven ACCA – the same team who have led Ember’s accounting support for the past four years.

Key things to know:

  • They are not tied to the Ember platform and can support you even if you move away from Ember software.

  • If you want to stay on Ember software (and have a Starling account), they can continue supporting you through the platform.

  • They can also guide and assist you through moving to a different software, if that’s the route you’d prefer.

What happens to my Ember subscription?

  • On 26th September 2025, your plan will move to a free subscription, and you will no longer be billed.

  • Refunds will be processed automatically for any unused time on your subscription after that date.


What are the key dates I need to remember?

  • 26th September 2025 → Ember accounting services end. All booked and paid-for work will be completed. Subscription refunds processed.

  • 31st December 2025 → Access to Ember software ends unless you have a Starling business account connected.


Quick summary

  • You don’t need to switch fully to Starling – just open a Starling account (even alongside your existing accounts) to keep using Ember software after 31st December 2025.

  • Ember’s accounting services end on 26th September 2025, but all paid and booked work will be completed.
